Overview

US News approached eHealth with strong interest in forming an exclusive partnership to offer Medicare Supplement (MS) plans through eHealth’s online, unassisted (OLU) shopping journey.

This integration would allow US News shoppers to seamlessly explore MS plans using eHealth’s state-approved plan filings, benefits data, and digital application process — all while maintaining strict compliance.

The opportunity:

  • Increase MS traffic to eHealth

  • Increase retention across eHealth’s Medicare Supplement plans.

  • Launch the first-ever MS online shopping experience hosted by US News

My Role

Senior Product Designer

  • Led UX strategy for new US News → eHealth MS flow

  • Designed the co-branded MS census modal, shopping entry points, and the redirect experience

  • Partnered with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Carrier Operations

  • Ensured all UI adhered to state-approved filings and carrier/legal constraints

  • Created flow diagrams, prototypes, and UI guidelines for US News integration

The Opportunity & Business Impact

Why this mattered

US News has massive Medicare traffic, but has historically routed Medicare Supplement shoppers to phone channels or non-digital experiences. By partnering exclusively with eHealth, they gain a high-quality online journey that is already filed and approved for 43 states and multiple carriers.

Projected Business Impact (Annual)

  • 34 MS apps via Online (OLU)

  • 420 MS apps via TeleSales

  • Total ~454 MS apps → ~$454K revenue

  • 20% of US News Medicare traffic likely qualifies for MS products

  • The partnership increases both digital conversions and call center leads

Outcome

This partnership positions eHealth as the exclusive digital engine powering Medicare Supplement shopping for US News. It required seamless collaboration across both organizations, including:

  • A multi-team ecosystem between eHealth and US News to integrate the eHealth MS widget

  • eHealth Engineering building new APIs to support MS-only plans

  • Legal ensuring all plan content matched state-filed designs

  • Compliance validating every step, CTA, and user flow

Together, we delivered the first co-branded online MS shopping experience, setting a new industry benchmark.
